Remember its also a DirectShow based player, so it will need a CCCP playback pack or at least the Haali media splitter to work for MKV files.Ĭomment: Currently the one player with the best matroska menu support, and not based on DirectShow (if you don't like codec installation on your PC) and it will play most of your MKVs out of the box.Ĭomment: A very good, DirectShow based mediaplayer with advanced matroska support in combination with the Haali media splitter.Ĭomment: Now that DivX has adopted the Matroska container for their HD content, they offer a good set of tools including a player, a DirectShow filter, a web player and an encoder.Ĭomment: foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. MediaPlayer Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC)Ĭomment: An improved version of MPC with more integrated decoders, performance, Vista support, etc.Ĭomment: Still one our preferred media players, with excellent matroska support thanks to its matroska CDL plugin. We recommend to deactivate the internal splitter, and use it with one of the CCCP playback packs. It is DirectShow based, but has a built-in, internal matroska splitter, which is tending to be outdated -).

Homepage | Download (English) | Download (other languages)Ĭomment: You can get this great player also in French, German and Russian language. Note it is not DirectShow based, so no codecs/filter installation is necessary. Please CorePlayer features one of the leading H.264 video decoders, "CoreAVC". However as of 1/2009 it does not support subtitles, RealVideo or AC3 playback. Supporting CE, Windows Mobile, PocketPC, Palm Symbian, iPhone, Windows, OS X and Linux, CorePlayer is currently the one player that uses the lowest CPU resources for playback of any modern media files, and includes full MKV and MKA support. we have also created CorePlayer with similar goals. Nobody needs this, and you can bet yo azz it will have more adware than actual features too.Comment: From the creators of Matroska. To play music there are like 150 programs that do it better than this piece of dung, same thing with videos. I think it’s amazing that even after what 30-40 years of development, Microsoft can’t get ONE damn thing right.

This is just a combined skin on top of Groove and WMP disguised as a new player. Oh well, I just wanted to see if it would install, there was never any chance of me using this “new” garbage, that apparently is yet another completely useless program at what it is supposed to do.

Not surprisingly it failed to install due to some missing things and hysterically funny it said to contact the developer for packages =) Hey Microsoft, got any packages? Yeah right. So, just for some laughs I tried this thing. Of course Windows Media Player and Groove Music as well, both supergarbage at what they are supposed to do. I massacred my Windows 11 install, butchered it into a bleeding redmond corpse by removing every preinstalled app etc etc. Have you tested the new Media Player, what do you think about it? It remains unclear whether the app will also be available for Windows 10, but since the Groove app is being replaced, one can only assume that the Media Player will support the old operating system. I'm guessing that the search indexing still points to the older version because the Store app uses the same listing. Even more oddly, searching for Groove Music lists the new Media Player in the results. The Start Menu lists the app as Media Player, but Windows Search does not recognize the name, it displays the legacy Windows Media Player as the result. Those are the only flaws in the app, otherwise it's quite good for playing local media files. The mini-player cannot be resized beyond a certain point. I would have preferred a button to toggle the sidebar. to just display the icons, increase the size or maximize the window to bring the labels back. You can resize the app's window to collapse the sidebar labels, i.e.

There doesn't seem to be any notable changes in the player since the first release. But, now that the app works on the Windows 11 stable channel, it is only a matter of time before Microsoft makes the news official. You may have noticed that the program's title says Media Player Preview, because it is still being tested. The new Media Player is ready to use, you can find more about its features in our previous article.
